Are you a Crochet Enthusiast? Have you ever given thought to the concept of using your Crochet Talents to help a Homeless Person? Well, that's what I've been doing since about 2005. Visit me at Hats For Homeless. There you'll find lots of photos. Some are of our visits to the Tulsa Day Center For The Homeless and some are of the handmade hats, scarves, gloves and mittens sent in by some very awesome folks.
In the mid- to northern range of the U.S.A., winters can get mighty cold. Even if you live in a warm-winter locale, consider the plight of those homeless people who don't. I've been informed recently that even Florida has some cold winter nights. A nice, warm hand-made or store bought hat can make a lot of difference. Add a neck warmer or scarf, a pair of gloves, mittens, or fingerless gloves, and a person could get down-right cozy.
There've been LOTS of e-mails sent to me requesting a good Crochet Pattern for any of these items. My mission here is to create a site which links to Free Patterns or very good Patterns to purchase. I shall also have some links or contact information to places where your handiwork or store bought items can be taken or sent. If there is a Homeless Shelter in or near your community, consider them first.
Donating yarn to someone who can crochet or knit and wants to make items for homeless people is another way to help. Belinda in Kansas loves to make hats for the homeless. To donate your yarn or your talents to help homeless people Contact Me and I'll be glad to hook you up.
Perhaps you have an interest in starting a central point for collecting items for a Homeless Shelter in your area. You'll find some ideas here which can be of assistance. I'm hoping that, with the experience I've amassed during these past several years, perhaps I can give you a few pointers to start your own "Hats For Homeless" project.
My mission, Hats For Homeless, started quite innocently and accidentally. There was absolutely no planning or foresight. Read here to see more on that subject.
I'm very glad you are here and hope I can help you to help others.
